Body-positive dietitian Marsha Hudnall, MS, RD, shares how she achieved her decades-long recovery from eating disorders, why she gravitated toward Health at Every Size and intuitive eating in her work, how she teaches clients to change their thoughts about their bodies, and lots more!

A registered dietitian nutritionist, Marsha has been a voice of reason for the last three decades in helping people move away from diets, using her personal and professional experience to give hope to women that overcoming eating and weight struggles is possible. 

She is a thought leader when it comes to managing eating, emotions, and weight. This is an area in which she is personally as well as professionally versed. She successfully overcame an eating disorder brought on by dieting and has maintained healthy eating and living habits for over 35 years now.

Since 1986, Marsha has been a part of Green Mountain at Fox Run, the Vermont women's retreat for healthy weight and well-being that pioneered the non-diet approach to health and healthy weights. An accomplished writer, she has produced a body of work that reflects her desire to help women move away from restrictive notions of food and health. She has written hundreds of articles for popular magazines, newsletters and professional journals, and has worked extensively on a national basis to produce curricula and pamphlets to educate the public about nutrition and about the impact of dieting on eating behaviors, including binge eating and emotional eating.

Kelsey M. Latimer, PhD, is a licensed psychologist in the Center for Pediatric Eating Disorders of Children’s Health/Children’s Medical Center Plano and an Assistant Professor in Psychiatry at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She works in all levels of care, including inpatient and partial hospitalization and leads the intensive outpatient program. Her research is focused on eating disorder prevention and intervention, and clinical outcomes of eating disorder programs.

Dr. Latimer has presented at over 40 regional/national/international conferences on topics of eating disorder treatment, body image and supervision/training. She has also been featured as a media expert source on Fox 4, Cosmopolitan.com, The Washington Post, Gurze Books Newsletter, Brit & Co, and Yahoo Style. This is a big episode for us, because this week marks three years that we've been producing the podcast! To celebrate this milestone, Christy talks with her colleague and mentor Melainie Rogers, founder of BALANCE Eating Disorder Treatment Center in New York City. Melainie shares how growing up in a farming family influenced her relationship to food, how she developed and eventually recovered from an eating disorder, why she later began sharing her recovery story with clients, and lots more. Plus hear how Melainie and BALANCE influenced Christy's decision to specialize in eating disorders, and what it's like to be a recovered clinician working in this field.

Melainie Rogers, MS, RD, CEDRD is a registered dietitian and Founder of BALANCE Eating Disorder Treatment Center in New York City. BALANCE offers a variety of outpatient programs including a day treatment program, an evening intensive outpatient program, an adolescent program, nutritional counseling, and a men’s group. Melainie is a nationally recognized expert on eating disorders and has spoken at national and international professional conferences on various topics related to the research and treatment of eating disorders. She works extensively to support the eating disorder community and specializes in the treatment of binge eating disorder (BED).

Melainie is the co-creator of the Reframing Recovery treatment model, uniquely designed to treat clients suffering from BED. Among her many affiliations, Melainie Rogers is the founder and recent past president of the New York City Chapter of the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals (IAEDP) and an Executive Board Member of the Center for the Study of Anorexia and Bulimia (CSAB). She is also an IAEDP Approved Supervisor in the treatment of eating disorders. Melainie has appeared on television and radio including the Today Show, The Early Show, MSNBC, and others.
