Why "Clean Eating" Is a Sneaky Diet

Diet culture hides in SO many different ways.

Sometimes we don't even realize that we've been sucked back into a diet because we believe that this one is different... "it's a lifestyle change"... "it's for my health."

The "clean eating" movement is one of the biggest culprits these days, disguising itself as a benevolent healer when in reality it fits right into the diet paradigm just like the rest of them.

The buzzwords are "healthy" instead of "skinny" and "clean" instead of "lite" or "low-cal," but it all comes down to the same thing: attempting to control your body.

Clean eating is just another way of restricting, another way of shaming yourself around food.

If we want to be free from diet culture once and for all, we have to accept that control doesn't work, and that it’s only through self-compassion and self-care that we can find true peace with food.

That’s what I talked about on this week’s episode of Food Psych with Isabel Foxen Duke. If you want to hear more about sneaky diet culture, the issues with the label “emotional eating,” and so much more, check out our conversation right here.
